Legend of the Knightwasher

Who are you ?

Hi! I’m a Finnish developer who has been in the indie “industry” for the past three and half years. I’m solo developing Legend of the Knightwasher. I’m mostly known as Detocroix on the internet, but my real name is Mirko Koponen. I like cats, medieval stuff, steampunk and I’m an artist.

What project will the Indie Dev Grant be helping you complete?

Indie Dev Grand doesn’t directly help me complete Knightwasher, but I would be using it to purchase more music and sound effects. Currently I have 30ish unique sounds and 1 music track in it. And as I don’t have any kind of funding (other than my own pockets, which already are picked deep) and there is still a lot of audio I need; It would help greatly in that :)

Who are you ?

We are a small french indie game studio composed of three developers; we are currently working on our first project called “Hexodius”.

What project will the Indie Dev Grant be helping you complete?

Hexodius is an arena twin stick shooter mixed with some dungeon crawler mechanics. To survive from different types of droid enemies you can choose your equipments among a lot of unique and powerful items. Use your two thumbs and your brain to make your way through the Hexodius complex.

Hexodius features:

-A story mode which combines exploration gameplay inspired by board games, arena shooting and tactical equipment choice. You’ll have to make your way out from a complex scattered across dimensions ruled by a crazy AI.

-An arcade mode wich focus on the shooting experience and the scoring!

This project is meant to be released on downloadable platforms on PC and XBOX 360.

We are a small team, and this project is self funded so far. The Indie Dev Grant would help us to finish and promote the game, we particularly need to add new sounds and new music.

Who are you ?

Digital Dreams is a Dutch indie game developer which designs and develops playful experiences. Founded by game designer Geert Nellen, programmer Thijmen Bink and level designer Roy van de Mortel. Digital Dreams strives to contribute meaningful and enriching experiences that push the boundaries of interactive entertainment. Our idea is to experiment and do something we haven’t seen before, in every game we make.

We try to reach the hard core as well as the casual game market by creating easier and less time consuming games, which possess powerful and emotionally rich interactive experiences none the less.

A different game every time.

In FYI the player needs to traverse the game world, which is built from bar diagrams, pie charts and all sorts of infographics. These constantly change based on your actions and movements. We call this ‘Input Morphing’. One bar shoots up in the sky when you fire a bullet, while another shrinks with every step you move. The player has to watch his/her
every move to make it to the end of the level, because this move may cause the exit to become unreachable.

FYI is an intelligent puzzle-platformer that creates a mindset of its own. The player will have to analyze and experiment with the world presented to him, while both his patience and reflexes are tested. Every action can cause a reaction, every step forward could set you back.

Phantom Planet

Who are you ?

We are ManBoys and we would like to apply for the Indie dev grant with our recently started game Phantom Planet. ManBoys is a team of two. Tomas (me), a computer science student, and Ieva, an art student. Up to now, I’ve only been doing game prototypes for my own pleasure. Ieva has been a finalist in Imagine Cup last year.

What project will the Indie Dev Grant be helping you complete?

It was initially a Ludum Dare entry, but we decided to expand the newly developed concept into something bigger. The game is about adapting to the enviroment. It’s going to be a more lighthearted zelda-like adventure game, but focusing more on world interaction and discovery rather than fighting (oh but there will be some of that too!) Including vast universe, all there to explore, and a deep story based on the player actions during the course of the game.

Courier of the Crypts

Who are you ?

My name is Primož Vovk (aka Blodyavenger) and I’m the owner of the indie game dev studio Emberheart Games. I’m a student and I work at the same time so that I can afford my living. It is thus very hard for me to spend extra money on game development, since I’m the only one working on the game.

What project will the Indie Dev Grant be helping you complete?

The project that IDG will help me to complete is called Courier of the Crypts.
It’s a 2D puzzle-exploration-action game with a twist. You play the role of a young
courier that undertakes simple delivery for the custodian of the crypts which soon
turns out into a deadly adventure.

In the game you help yourself with a magic torch (which must never run out of flame) which prevents some enemies to get you and it also helps you at solving some of the puzzles. In more than 30 maps you’ll find lots of different enemies, traps, different levels of the crypts and bosses.

I spend most of my extra time working on everything I can (programming, art & marketing) but I still need to pay for music and sound effects and there is also a steam greenlight where I would like to put my game in the near future (in 2 months).

The Complete Writings of Mme. Esther Darwin

Who are you ?

I’m Niall Moody. I’ve been making free and open source games for a few years now, at I also run a small record label, at

What project will the Indie Dev Grant be helping you complete?

The Complete Writings of Mme. Esther Darwin. It’s a surreal adventure of sorts where the player takes the role of Esther Darwin as she travels to various outlandish places and writes about their inhabitants.

The final game will incorporate multiple branching paths and hidden sections. It will also – inspired by Michael Brough’s VESPER.5 – present the player with different environments and events dependent on which (real life) day of the week they play on, and certain specific days of the year will present their own unique settings. Although I’ve only released free games to date, this one will probably be a commercial project.

A very early version of the game is available for download (Windows and OSX) here:

Telepath Tactics (

Telepath Tactics is what you would get if you mixed Fire Emblem and Disgaea together in a pot; threw in environmental hazards, elevation effects, random item drops and 6-player multiplayer; made the scenery destructible; added 22 different character classes with their own unique attacks, strengths and weaknesses; and let the thing simmer until done. As a side dish, Telepath Tactics comes with a single player campaign steeped in war and political intrigue. For dessert, enjoy full support for custom maps, custom items, custom character classes, custom tilesets, custom destructible objects, and even entire custom single player campaigns.

In short: Telepath Tactics is a turn-based tactics buff’s wet dream. If you love tactics, then you are going to love Telepath Tactics. Bon appetit!

For more information about Telepath Tactics, visit the official page ( Please note that Telepath Tactics is still in pre-alpha; character animations are still in progress, and will not appear in any game footage until they are completed.

What project will the Indie Dev Grant be helping you complete?

Galactic Adventures Inc is a space exploration/adventure game, in a space/sci-fi setting. You take the role of a customer at Galactic Adventures Inc, a company offering adventure travels, which entails you getting a spaceship, and then being teleported to a random location anywhere in space. Within a designated radius of your ship, a Jump Beacon is also teleported, and that is the one you will have to locate in order to get back home. If you don’t find it, you will die in space. With you will have you personal Computer Engineered Location Explorer Supporter (or C.E.L.E.S), who will assist you in avoiding the various dangers of space, and who will explain the functions of your ship.

Who are you ?

I’m Simon Roth, an ex-AAA developer turned indie. I previously worked on Kinectimals, The Outsider, VVVVVV for the Humble Indie Bundle, and at Mode 7 Games. I’m now working on my own self-funded game called Maia.

What project will the Indie Dev Grant be helping you complete?

Maia is a space colony management simulator, set in a 70′s sci-fi future where mankind is finally taking the giant leap to extra solar colonization. Heavily influenced by ninetees god games, the game will have a dark sense of humour and a deep level of complexity, offering something engaging for casual and hardcore players alike. The player must mine out an underground base to escape the hostile surface of the planet, and focus on keeping the colonists safe, sane, fed and happy.  Featuring its own bespoke engine, the game simulates hundreds of dangers and resources; from fluids such as Lava and water, realistic lighting, atmosphere and vacuums as well as intelligent alien fauna that learns. The game is currently in pre-alpha, and needs funds to continue development, preparing it for release.

Who are you ?

My name is Sergey, I’m an independent game developer. I have recently released my first game, Dédale, on iOS, Mac and PC ( It’s a puzzle game, which looks and feels very friendly but will, in fact, make you wreck your brain and significantly damage your table with your forehead. Which is why I always advise playing it in some kind of safe environment, like underwater, and hope that the soothing music and calm pretty visuals will somewhat soften the blow.

What project will the Indie Dev Grant be helping you complete?

That project would be Dissolution. It was initially a Ludum Dare 24 project, that is to say, I made a prototype of the game in 48 hours:

And with this grant I am planning to expand this project to make it a complete game. Here’s some info about it.

Dissolution doesn’t have a genre and combines various elements of platformer, adventure, RPG and puzzle. The protagonist (his name is the Dude) is an amorphous creature with mentality of Max Payne (or, perhaps, Morte) who once wakes up in a cheerful and colorful world and can’t stand it the least bit. The thing is, the world doesn’t like the Dude much either. Dude tries to find his way out and fights various obnoxious unicorns and fairies while trying not to be consumed by this inhospitable environment.

The world is constantly in motion, as black-and-white (part of which is the protagonist) does its best to consolidate its efforts and gather up enough resources to defeat the vicious creatures of color.

As Dude moves across the terrain, he slowly submerges in the flowers and grasses, so the player’s task is to find sources of black and gray and munch them to develop some kind of resistance and eventually evolve into something bigger and stronger.

I’m not alone on the team, I’ve also now got a professional writer working with me to ensure that Dissolution will end up being a meaningful, exceedingly stylish and all in all awe-inspiring experience. I am planning to get this game on as many platforms as possible, but my primary focus right now is Windows, Mac and Linux desktop.
