Goblin Quest – Escape!

GoblinQuestEscape

The Project:

Goblin Quest: Escape! is a dungeon crawler and reverse tower defense game, designed to please both casual and serious gamers. You control Mook, a goblin that has to find a way out of dungeons while avoiding traps and towers, collecting loot and sometimes completing other objectives. You cannot attack enemies directly but you have abilities and items to help you.

There are both equipable / usable items and pieces of clothing you can obtain. The items provide passive buffs and active abilities, the outfits provide passive buffs that affect you as long as you have them equipped. Item and outfit combinations allow for dozens of different strategies on each map.

Our primary release target is mobile, but if we have enough resources we may release a PC (Windows, Mac and Linux) version of the game that’s designed to be a standalone DRM-free experience. Of course our dream would be to also release it on mainstream consoles (last- and current-gen), but I feel that is a bit out of our reach. Oh, and an OUYA version is going to be shipped as well, some time after the mobile versions.

The Team:

Our core team consists of two people. Daniel Kalmar is the lead programmer, Máté Veres is the lead designer and 2D artist. This is the first indie game for either of us. Daniel is a programmer by trade and has some professional game industry experience in mobile development. Máté has worked as a 2D artist for years, mostly doing licensed and outsourced art for other games.

Specter

Specter

The Project:

Specter is an action-platformer that borrows a lot of our favorite tried-yet-true mechanics from the genre and meshes them, all while adding some new concepts to the mix.
Follow Harold, a slightly arrogant, but endearing lord, on his journey to reclaim his tower and relearn his skills. Beat challenging, beautifully handcrafted levels. Use your abilities for platforming and combat. Solve puzzles on the fly while narrowly escaping the rising lava.
Specter’s combat system forces you to think before you leap into the next horde of enemies. What’s the best combination of abilities to use in that specific situation? In what order should you kill your adversaries to be the most efficient? Those are the kind of decisions we want to encourage!

The Team:

Blair and I got to know each other during a game project which started on gamedev.net. After half a year of hard work the team of about eight drifted apart, but we stayed in touch. A few month later we found each other on a team again, but again most the team lost interest in the project. After that Blair and I decided to just start something on our own. Two days later we had a working prototype of Specter. It was fun, we decided to keep working on it and ZZep games was born!

Guild of Dungeoneering

GuildOfDungeoneering

The Project:

“Recruit adventurers to explore dungeons for the glory of your Guild. Build the dungeon room by room, fill it with monsters, traps and treasure .. and hope your dungeoneers have what it takes to return victorious!”

A dungeon exploration game where you don’t get to control the adventurer. Instead you lay out the dungeon one room at a time (including treasure & monsters) and he proceeds according to his AI. You want him to explore, level up, find treasures and ultimately survive – but you don’t get to directly control him.

Guild of Dungeoneering started as a small project for One Game A Month but is now being developed into a commercial game. A playable alpha is available to try out.

The Team:

Game design & programming: Colm Larkin. Colm has been making games for the last 5 years and has finished a number of smaller games in the last year. This is his first commercial game & the first time he’s had the joy of not having to use his own horrible programmer art!

Art: Fred Mangan. Fred is an artist, photographer, film-maker and ad agency art director. This is his first time working on a game!

Brutal Nature

BrutalNature

The Project:

Brutal Nature is a free to play multiplayer survival game where anything can be created and destroyed. You are stranded on an island but you are not alone. Form a group with others to improve your chances of survival but beware not everyone will be friendly!
Life in Brutal Nature is about survival by gathering resources for crafting, building structures, hunting and being hunted.

The Landscape is a smooth voxel terrain that you can mine for resources, make caves, destroy with weapons, blow up with explosives and place to build structures up to thousands of feet in any direction. Build towers miles tall and mine far into the depths of the earth with our easy to use terrain editing controls.

Realism will be strived for but not allowed to stand in the way of fun. Game play will be tunable from highly realistic to arcade style fun by an easy to use modding system.

The Team:

Brutal Nature is the full time project of one man, Black Moons. When he is not programming he is researching weapons, chemistry and metallurgy to further improve the realism and complexity of the game or watching lets play videos of other games to see what people like and dislike about them. Inspired by dwarf fortress, Black Moon wants to make a game of similar complexity but more accessible.

All The World

All-the-World

The Project:

All the World is an episodic-like visual novel built on the open source engine Ren’Py. It features likable characters, interesting environments and 3D scenes. Episodic-like is a term for each chapter in the story is treated like an episode on television.

The Team:

Zenzizenzic

Zenzinzensic

The Project:

You don’t have to be that masochistic to give Zenzizenzic a shot, really, trust me! Have faith in your abstract little ship and blast thou foes into the unknown two dimensional beyond with the help of a wide variety of destructive and exotic weapons. It’ll be fun. There’s a myriad of enemy variety, bonus levels, upgrades, dynamic difficulty, unlocks and all that good jazz. You can even grab a buddy and kick back to the insanely awesome soundtrack while cooperatively being slaughter… eh, positively challenged! Currently in beta, the full game is planned to be available within the next 2 months.

The Team:

Without any practical knowledge on game design and development, except for what was garnered over the course of 15 to 20 or so years of playing games, I set out to build a game myself. I didn’t know a damn thing, except for what feels right and what doesn’t in a game. Over the following months I spend as much time as I could muster familiarizing myself with the ins and outs of game development and all that comes with it (which is a lot as it turns out!). Zenzizenzic is the first result of my efforts.

Ashen Rift: A man and his dog

AshenRift

The Project:

Ashen Rift follows the life of a man and his canine companion Bounder as they seek to get to the core of earths dire situation. Together as they do so they encounter strange corruptions of man within the twisted and suffocated remains of Earth.

“20 years ago some scientists and military folk got to meddlin’ in things they ought to have left alone, they called it a “rift” or some such.

Now the whole damn earth is almost entirely empty and she’s about to breathe her last breath. I don’t reckon I know exactly what’s causing all of this, but I know what I’ve seen since then and it ain’t right… Maybe it’s not too late for earth, maybe shes got some fight left in her.”

With Bounder by your side you will scrounge for whatever ammo and explosives you can find and when that fails you will grab dirt, rocks or any other found objects around you to maim and distract the beasts which wander aimlessly looking, smelling and listening for a meal.

The Team:

My name is Barry Michael Collins, a 13+ year game industry freelance artist and I have been solo developing Ashen Rift part time for almost 3 months… Development halted a month ago when I found out my father had died in a tragic and very depressing manner, I am just now bouncing back from this upset and resuming development with new found burning need to make something of my life, I hope Ashen Rift can be the starting point for me to be able to continue developing the games I dream of playing.
